EasyLink Buys Xpedite

EasyLink Services (ESIC), a which provides business messaging and transaction services, late yesterday said it has acquired the Xpedite Systems unit of Premier Global Services (PGI) for $105 million in cash. That unit includes the PGiSend, which focuses on the enterprise fax market, and PGiNotify, which provides automated messaging services.

The company said it paid for the deal with $5 million in cash and a new credit facility consisting of a $110 million term loan and a $20 million revolver.

Meanwhile, EasyLink also reported financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter ended July. (July, really?) For the quarter, the company posted revenue of $19.9 million, and profits of $11.9 million, or 41 cents a share, including a $10.3 million tax credit.

ESIC is up 60 cents, or 20.8%, to $3.48.
