iPhone 5, Andy Rooney: Hot Trends

Popular searches on the Internet Wednesday include iPhone 5, as many analysts expect Apple to debut the latest version of its smartphone next week.

Apple has invited media to an event on Oct. 4 -- "Let's talk iPhone" -- prompting speculation the iPhone 5 will be unveiled that day. Analysts also believe the iPhone 5 will feature a bigger screen, a dual core processor and an 8-mega pixel camera. The iPhone 5 would be Apple's first major product launch under the leadership of Tim Cook, who took over as chief executive when Steve Jobs stepped down last month. Andy Rooney is also trending. The legendary CBS newsman is retiring from "60 Minutes" after 33 years on the job. Rooney, who is 92, will announce his retirement after his 1,097th essay on this Sunday night's broadcast. His announcement will follow an interview in which Rooney looks back on his career. Rooney has been featured on the program since 1978. Finally, OnStar is another popular search. After controversy erupted over OnStar's proposed policy changes regarding former customers, the automobile communication service has decided not to pursue the changes. Customers were concerned about privacy issues when OnStar, which is owned by General Motors(GM), said it would keep former customers connected and collect data on their driving habits and whereabouts. OnStar will no longer connect with former customers automatically after their service has been disconnected. Former customers can still choose to stay connected and their information will be collected. The chatter on Main Street (a.k.a. Google, Yahoo! and other search sites) is always of interest to investors on Wall Street. Thus, each day, TheStreet compiles the stories that are trending on the Web, and highlights the news that could make stocks move.. >To order reprints of this article, click here: Reprints
