Micron CEO Appleton Killed In Plane Crash

Folks, some sad news: Steve Appleton, 51, chief executive of flash memory chip maker�Micron Technology (MU), and a tech industry legend, has been killed in a plane crash in Boise, Idaho, the company announced this afternoon.

The company’s shares have been halted. The last trade indication was up 23 cents, or 3%, at $7.95 at about half past 1 pm. It’s not clear at what time the shares will resume trading.

Update: In after-hours trading, Micron was quoted at $7.78, down 2% from where it was halted.

Update, February 6th, 2012: The company on Saturday said it appointed chief operating officer Mark Durcan as Appleton’s replacement, and named him to the board of directors.

Micron shares were down 18 cents, or 2%, at $7.76 in Monday morning trading.
