IRS May Still Have Your $1,500 Refund Check

The Internal Revenue Service may have a $1,500 check with your name on it.

The federal agency said Wednesday that it has $153.3 million in undelivered tax refund checks still in it possession, due to mailing address errors.

Undelivered refund checks averaged $1,547 this year, lower than this year's average overall refund of $3,129. The IRS says to reduce the chances of the problem repeating itself next year, taxpayers should file their returns electronically, which eliminates the risk of lost paper returns. They should also choose to get checks via direct deposit when they file either paper or electronic returns.Those who think they are among the 99,123 taxpayers who have yet to pick up their refund can claim their check either online or by calling 1-800-829-1954.Getting your mailing address right on your tax returns is only one way to find unclaimed money in your name.
